Half the room works in production, so Los Angeles guests can tell lit from unlit at a glance. It is the one market where a properly keyed subject against a programmed color wash reads instantly — and the one where a ring light on a stick gets noticed immediately.

The mansions and clubs that make this city worth shooting in were wired before anyone imagined a 4K camera and a lighting rig in the ballroom. We survey power ahead of the date and bring our own distribution and silent battery supply where a house circuit will not carry it.

Call times built around traffic, not optimism

Crew call is set so that a 60-minute drive taking 110 minutes still puts us in the room early. We have never taken a booking we could not reach calmly, and we would turn one down rather than arrive at the venue at the same time as the guests.
